Gordon Cheung: Many Worlds, One Mind Born in London to parents from Hong Kong, Gordon Cheung’s work emerges from an intersection of cultures, histories and ideas. His practice reflects a fluid dialogue between East and West, drawing on Chinese philosophy, European painting and contemporary technological innovation. At the heart of his work is an ongoing exploration of the systems that shape belief, value and power. Cheung frequently engages with the origins of global trade and early capitalism, from seventeenth-century Dutch markets to today’s digital economies. Many works are built upon pages of Financial Times stock listings, embedding global finance into their foundation. Across these surfaces, Cheung constructs landscapes that echo classical European painting, yet on closer inspection reveal a distinctly contemporary language shaped by digital processes, 3D technologies and scientific methods. The result is a body of work where illusion and reality shift, and where art history, economics and imagination converge in hybrid, speculative landscapes. Cheung studied at Central Saint Martins and the Royal College of Art. His work is held in major collections including the Museum of Modern Art, the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, the Whitworth Art Gallery, and the British Museum. Many Worlds, One Mind brings together key works from across Cheung’s practice, offering a rare opportunity to encounter an artist whose work connects art, technology and global systems, and invites us to reconsider the forces shaping the world today. SASHA CONSTABLE ‘‘KETTLE BRIDGE’ Constable: Generations In 1816, John Constable and his wife Maria Bicknell spent part of their honeymoon in Osmington, Dorset, establishing a lasting family connection with the county. Generations brings together works by John Constable’s descendants: the late Richard Constable, his daughter Sasha Constable and her son Valya Constable, alongside selected pieces by other family members. The exhibition celebrates a remarkable artistic lineage, their Dorset connections and the enduring creativity of the Constable family across generations. 23 June - 8 August: The Corn Exchange Gallery, High East Street, DORCHESTER, DT1 1HF. Gathered Contours Landscape painter Shirley Kirkcaldy and ceramicist Caroline Aisher both live and work on Dartmoor in Devon, and it is this shared geography - together with the sea- worn edges of Devon and Cornwall - that forms the quiet conversation at the heart of this exhibition. Though distinct in medium and approach, their work shares a sensitivity to place: a feeling for contour, texture, sky and water. 25 July - 12 August: Sou’-Sou’-West Gallery, Manor Yard, Symondsbury Estate, SYMONDSBURY, Bridport, DT6 6HG. 10.30am - 3.30pm. 01308 301326 / sousouwest.co.uk . ‘ANDALUSIAN UMBRELLA PINES’ (Acrylics) CAROLINE AISHER ‘NATURAL MOON JAR’
