Not a geography of realism, there are no landmarks that are instantly recognisable, these are places so intimate that the feeling of belonging is palpable. These are landscapes peopled with wanderers and angels, scenes where the protagonist is often looking beyond the edges of this magical place, leaning towards a greater mystery. Exhibited alongside these works are his recent ‘still life’, reminiscent of the dark Spanish Baroque. David assembles a collection of familiar objects, mementoes of stories collected throughout his life. He creates scenarios that include the viewer in the universal questions of being, life and death. Exquisitely beautiful and demanding closer scrutiny, these works examine our belief in something greater than ourselves and extend an invitation to look more intently.
