Headlines 7 Diary Dates THE MONOCHROME SET Django Chutney Django Chutney have been described as a virtuosic gypsy-jazz ‘manouche et trois’, with equal parts due respect for the genre, unruly chaotic energy and a huge dose of tongue-in-cheek humour. The Brighton-based trio have been blowing away audiences since 2021. They create tightly woven, three-part vocal harmonies reminiscent of 1930s and 1940s American vocal groups the Mills Brothers and the Ink Spots. This is combined with ridiculous guitar show-offery and double bass solos that drag Pops Fosters’ slap technique kicking and screaming into the 21st century. An infectious love of performing - whether it’s jazz, blues, folk or Black Sabbath - has helped propel this trio into a non-stop run of shows around the festivals, pubs and jazz clubs of the UK, Europe and Japan. Their repertoire is seemingly fi rmly rooted in the ‘30s Hot Club de France era, but will suddenly transport you through decades and styles from New Orleans jazz to Chicago blues and Parisian musette, effortlessly, respectfully, but most importantly, with true joie de vivre. 17 May: Marine Theatre, Church Street, LYME REGIS, DT7 3QB. 8pm. £18 / £16. 01308 424901 / marinetheatre.com . HAMISH YOUNG ‘TORN ENVELOPE NO. 1’ (Solo Exhibition Winner, Open 2024) Black Swan Arts Open 2026 The Open is Black Swan Arts’ fl agship exhibition, and artists and makers working across all disciplines and media are now invited to submit their entries. Founded in 1986, Black Swan Arts has played a central role in Frome’s cultural life for four decades. To mark its 40th anniversary, this year’s Open will be shaped by a carefully chosen panel of guest selectors and judges drawn from across the contemporary arts, all independent of the organisation’s Board and Programming Group. This approach allows for a thoughtful, open-minded and rigorous selection process. Bringing together artists at different stages of their careers from the region and beyond, the 2026 Open aims to be bigger, broader and more ambitious than ever. Selected works will be exhibited in the Long Gallery at Black Swan Arts from Saturday 8th August to Sunday 27th September 2026, accompanied by an exciting programme of talks and events. The Open 2026 is now open for entries and will close for entries on Monday 1st June. blackswanarts.org.uk THE MONOCHROME SET 3 July The Tree House, FROME. cheeseandgrain.com POTFEST 3 - 5 July Turnpike Showground, SHAFTESBURY. potfest.co.uk SWANAGE JAZZ FESTIVAL 10 - 12 July swanagejazzfestival.co.uk DORSET OPERA FESTIVAL 21 - 25 July Coade Theatre, BRYANSTON, Blandford. dorsetopera.com MUCHELNEY POTTERY OPEN DAY 25 July johnleachpottery.co.uk DEVON OPEN STUDIOS 2026 6 - 21 September Locations throughout DEVON. devonartistnetwork.co.uk B-SIDE FESTIVAL 10 - 13 September Locations throughout PORTLAND. b-side.org.uk SOMERSET ART WEEKS 2026 19 September - 4 October Locations throughout SOMERSET. somersetartworks.org.uk *EVOLVER_149_SB.qxp_Evolver_2025 14/04/2026 20:08 Page 7
