Primordial Dance “Helen Garrett creates beautiful, profound paintings exploring the depth of time and its spiral motion. Her visual art practice is a process of revealing the elemental forces and stories embedded in physical and metaphysical worlds. She is particularly interested in the link between ancient times and the present through material and place – both in the UK and in the Aegean. Paintings that touch the edge of philosophy, archaeology and physics. The work becomes a vehicle for contemplation as we re fl ect on the human experience - each work a unique exploration into the ever-transforming context in which we fi nd ourselves. Kate Innes’s work in poetry and fi ction is inspired by her background working in archaeology and museums. She seeks out the stories held within places and objects – interrogating the essential in the physical and spiritual life of our ancestors. As part of this creative collaboration with Helen, Kate has written over twenty poems now collected in her new volume The Matter , focusing on the materials used by artists in the ancient past, as well as the materials of oil painting and printing today.” 29 November – 20 December: Bridport Arts Centre, 9 South Street, BRIDPORT, DT6 3NR.
