The many doors and windows of the quaint, colonial style building invite you to look out at an array of plants, but when you look up into the exhibition space above the windows, Helen’s large-scale paintings of fl owers draw you into a closer relationship with plants than you might have imagined possible. When Helen looks into a fl ower, leaves and petals become swirling forms, defying gravity or swimming beneath the waves, suggesting times future and past. Since leaving The Royal Academy Schools, Helen has exhibited across the country, including Kew Gardens where she had 30 pictures on show. Helen lives in a village not too far away from Abbotsbury and is able to spend time painting in the Gardens. You may well fi nd her drawing under a white umbrella.” Until 31 October: Cafe Gallery, Abbotsbury Subtropical Gardens, Buller’s Way, ABBOTSBURY, near Weymouth, DT3 4LA. 10am - 5pm.
